Work Ethic Diploma - Essay & Interview

  • Due to the COVID - 19 pandemic, voluntary drug testing will not be part of the criteria this year. In lieu of the drug testing, we are asking that students who need the extra points to earn their Work Ethic Diploma complete a short essay about why they feel being drug free in the workplace is important. If this essay is submitted on time and meets the length requirements, the student will earn the 5 points they would have earned for taking the voluntary drug test. Please submit your essay no later then 5:00 pm on Friday, May 8, 2020. Essays will not be accepted after this time.

Please note, if you have already met the requirements for the Work Ethic Diploma Program and do not need the extra points, you do not need to complete the essay.

  • Please make sure to fill in your contact information. Once your essay has been submitted, Holly Lane, Project Coordinator at the Garrett County Chamber of Commerce, will be contacting you to set up a phone interview. The phone interview is required to earn your Work Ethic Diploma. The interview will last no more than 15 minutes and the questions you will be asked during the interview are below. This is a practice interview, you are not graded.

    Interview Questions:

    1. What character and discipline do you think you demonstrate to earn a Work Ethic Diploma?

    2. Now that you are completing the program, what does “work ethic” mean to you?  What have you learned about your own work ethic?

    3. Share with us either a work, community service or team activity that demonstrates your work ethic.

    4. What plans do you have after you graduate?

    5. How will you be an asset to the business that hires you?

If you have any questions, please contact Holly Lane at holly@garrettchamber.com.
