Garrett College Continuing Education and Workforce Development will be offering community chorus at the main campus in McHenry. The ensemble, directed by Dr. Sean Beachy, adjunct instructor of music at Garrett College, will begin meeting on Thursday, February 16. Rehearsals will begin at 7 p.m. in the Auditorium. No previous choral experience is necessary. For those that enjoy singing and wish to be part of an exciting opportunity in Garrett County, join fellow students, the music department of Garrett College, and members of the community in forming a collaborative new chorus this coming spring. Participants will learn a variety of music, including sacred, secular, and popular repertoire that will culminate with a public performance at the end of the semester. Dr. Beachy earned an undergraduate degree in applied music with an emphasis in piano from Alderson-Broaddus College. He also has earned a master of music degree in composition from Shenandoah University and a doctor of musical arts degree in composition from West Virginia University. He has had pieces premiered and performed throughout the United Sates, including most recently in Frostburg for the city’s Bicentennial Celebration. In addition to teaching both credit and non-credit courses at Garrett College, he is a freelance composer and collaborative pianist. He is a staff accompanist at Frostburg State University, where he plays for the Chamber Choir and Vocal Jazz Ensemble, as well as students for recitals. Beachy has recently been appointed adjunct instructor of composition at Frostburg State University and will begin teaching composition lessons this spring. He is also the church organist, A/V coordinator, and webmaster at Frostburg United Methodist Church.
