1. Hear from the Managing Director of the Division of Tourism, Film, and the Arts

Tourism is Maryland’s fourth largest industry and has an economic impact on Maryland by creating jobs, generating tax revenue, and increasing business income. The speaker for our November 2018 Business Before Hours is none other than Liz Fitzsimmons, Managing Director of DTFA. Liz last spoke at the same event in 2016 and we’re excited to hear more about the state’s strategies for promoting tourism. 

2. Get a Brief Update on Garrett County Tourism

In addition to acting as largest professional business association in Garrett County the Chamber also serves as the Convention & Visitors Bureau (CVB) and the Destination Marketing Organization (DMO) for the County. In this capacity we are responsible for attracting more than 1.2 million visitors per year to Garrett County through our marketing efforts. Sarah Duck, the Chamber’s own Vice President of Tourism & Marketing, will be providing a brief overview of her efforts to market the county to potential visitors. 

3. Tourism Affects You, Directly or Indirectly

Your business may or may not be directly connected to tourism but there is a wide range of benefits that you still benefit from. From employment to increased spending in the local community, improved infrastructure through tax dollars, pride in local history and cultural identity, and new opportunities for entrepreneurs, tourism is a huge economic engine in Garrett County.
