Higher Education in Garrett County
Although the state's smallest college, Garrett College (GC) is one of its best. Approximately 900 students are enrolled in credit-bearing programs, with another 4,000 pursuing non-credit workforce training and continuing education each year.
In 2011, GC had the highest graduation/transfer rate of college-ready students in the state.
'Our students, when they transfer to another institution, on average, outperform students form every other community college in the state,' says GC's president, Dr. Richard MacLennan.
With the lowest student/faculty ratio in Maryland, 'students really get instense, hands-on instruction and engagement from faculty,' says MacLennan. 'We pay attention to students from start to finish.'
