  • Deep Creek Experience in 2 days/Weekend

    Morning

    • Begin your day in the northern end of the county, visiting Casselman Inn or Penn Alps Restaurant for a hearty home-made breakfast. (Check hours of operation based on day of week/season).
    • Next visit the Spruce Forest Artisan Village to tour restored log cabins that house 10 local artisans. Watch as they perform their craft and learn more about their specialties including pottery, bird sculpting and metal sculpting.
    • A short walk to lead to the Casselman River Bridge State Park boasting the single span stone bridge, which is a National Historic Landmark. When it was completed, the bridge was the longest single span bridge in the US.

    Mid-Morning & Lunch

    • Next travel south on Rt. 219 to the town of Accident. Part of your group will head to the historic Drane House, known as the oldest listed standing structure in the county. The other part of the group will head to FireFly Farms Creamery & Market, which features handmade goat cheeses. Watch the process from a viewing area and enjoy a tasting and pairing experience.
    • For lunch, smaller groups will love the local flavors of Moonshadow Cafe located across the street from FireFly Farms. Larger groups will continue south in to the Deep Creek Lake area and will enjoy lunch at one of area eateries.

    Afternoon & Evening

    • From Accident, cut across Hoye's Road to Rt. 42. Stroll through the shops of Schoolhouse Earth. Sample gourmet treats and even feed a couple of their farm animals. Great place to pick up some goodies to bring home.
    • While in the Deep Creek Lake vicinity, make a stop at Wisp Resort for a trip up the mountain on a scenic chairlift ride or zoom down the mountain on a thrilling mountain coaster ride.
    • Dinner awaits you at one of our local establishments - whether your group wants, steak, chicken, seafood or pizza, our area has just the place to feed any appetite.
    • Relax after dinner or take in a local performance through GLAF (summertime) or visit a local watering hole for some libations.

    Day Two: Morning

    • Take in the small town feel in the quaint county seat of downtown Oakland. Many shops dot main street and if time allows, check out the museums including the Garrett Historical Museum, Oakland B&O Museum and the Transportation Museum. 
    • Next, travel to Swallow Falls State Park. Known for the highest free-falling water fall, Muddy Creek Falls - this state park boasts tall timbers and beautiful scenery throughout.  Enjoy a catered picnic lunch in their pavilion.
    • Another option for lunch is at the historic Cornish Manor Restaurant built in 1868.
    • If time allows, be sure to take the walking tour of Mountain Lake Park's Historic District. This small town features some of the oldest homes in the area.

    Late Afternoon & Departure

    • Your afternoon with begin with watching the art of glass blowing at the Simon Pearce Glassblowing Factory. Afterwards, peruse the gift shop for a treasure to take home with you.
    • Next, travel back to the lake area and visit the Deep Creek Lake State Park for a stop at the Discovery Center for an up-close look at nature and take a leisurely break on the water's edge. If time (and energy!) allows, partake in a guided hike or listen to a naturalist give a lesson on local wildlife.
    • Depending on activity level and season, try something new on a kayak tour or a site back and relax on a fishing boat tour.
    • Heading home from your explorations in our area will leave you with fond memories and plans to return with your family and friends in the future!
