Garrett College Continuing Education and Workforce Development is offering a four-session course, The Basics of Genealogy: Tracing Your Roots, on Wednesdays, October 5-26 from 6 p.m. to 9:15 p.m. at the college’s Northern Outreach Center location in Grantsville. Genealogy is one of the nation’s fastest growing hobbies. This course is packed full of new concepts, techniques and ideas to get one started to a fulfilling lifetime of tracing a family tree. Lessons will include genealogy basics, family and home sources, how to read and understand records and census information, and investigating vital records. Learn what is available online and what repositories have information that can help answer genealogical questions. The course is being taught by Christy Venham, who teaches the subject at West Virginia University and also works at the West Virginia and Regional History Collection.
