    Event Description:
Love rock 'n roll and pop music? Play electric guitar, bass guitar, keyboard, and/or drum set and want to collaborate with others in a group? If the answer to either of these questions are yes, then, the school of rock class is for you. This course focuses on learning popular music in a rock band setting. Students will need to have some experience (either formal training or self-taught) on their instrument of choice and will need to provide their own instruments. Topics include: history of rock, instrumentation, and song literature. Students will work toward presenting a concert at the end of the semester. This course is for those who are 10-17 years of age. The course is being offered by Garrett College Continuing Education and Workforce Development and instructed by Dr. Sean Beachy. He earned an undergraduate degree in applied music with an emphasis in piano from Alderson-Broaddus College. He also has earned a master of music degree in composition from Shenandoah University and a doctor of musical arts degree in composition from West Virginia University. He has had pieces premiered and performed throughout the United Sates, including most recently in Frostburg for the city?s Bicentennial Celebration. In addition to teaching both credit and non-credit courses at Garrett College, Beachy is a freelance composer and collaborative pianist. He is a staff accompanist at Frostburg State University, where he plays for the Chamber Choir and Vocal Jazz Ensemble, as well as students for recitals. He has recently been appointed adjunct instructor of composition at FSU and will begin teaching composition lessons this spring. He is also the church organist, A/V coordinator, and webmaster at Frostburg United Methodist Church.
